ONE DOWN.. 37 CUP FINALS TO GO

-

PEDRO CAIXINHA admitted winning was the only thing that mattered after watching his Rangers side kick off their Premiership campaign with a Fir Park victory.

The Ibrox boss was delighted for new arrival Graham Dorrans after he netted a debut double for his boyhood heroes either side of Ben Heneghan’s header for Motherwell.

Caixinha knows there is room for improvement but after Gers were held in their league opener last season he knew three points were most important.

With Hibs next up in the league at Ibrox on Saturday, he said: “The only goal, the only objective that we had coming here, was to win. So I need to be happy with that.

“Now we just need to play 37 more finals. I’m really happy for

Graham . At 30, he is playing for his lifetime club.

“He’s a Rangers supporter, he is really passionate about the club. So I’m happy he could give us the two goals which allowed us to take three points back home.

“The win was the most pleasing thing. It’s about winning. You might speak about performance after you draw the game and say, ‘Great performance, bad result.’

“But we are result-orientated. Sometimes we need to be humble and understand what is needed for us to keep the result. So that’s what we did.

“If you ask me a different way and say ‘Could we have a different history from this game?’ – if we take our chances, if we control more of the game, I totally agree.

“We focus on the key points we need to improve but we have a common point, especially in our last three matches, from Watford, Sheffield Wednesday and today.

“I demand high tempo from the beginning. Focus on points we have discussed with the players from the very beginning.”

Caixinha switched to five at the back late on with Danny Wilson introduced for striker Kenny Miller as Motherwell went all-out for an equaliser.

He explained: “They were playing the majority of the game in their box, the ball was only in their box and then the ball was in our box.

“They ended up with three strikers so we knew they would just play the ball into the box and we needed an extra body, an extra head there to finish the game.

“We finished the game, like for example against Sheffield Wednesday last week, 5-4-1.”

Josh Windass scored in the 2-0 win over the Owls and impressed again but Caixinha has warned he must still do more.
