If Bale is out I’m in

If he is not in the club’s plans ... that would mean he’s on the way out JOSE MOURINHO

JOSE MOURINHO has dropped his biggest hint he will swoop for Gareth Bale in the transfer window.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s UEFA Super Cup showdown in Skopje the Manchester United boss admitted he’d “fight” to sign the Real Madrid star should Bernabeu boss Zinedine Zidane deem him surplus to requirements.

Welshman Bale has been linked with a move away from Madrid since January after seemingly falling out of favour with Zidane.

The deal could prove even more likely if Real manage to bring in highly-rated French teen Kylian Mbappe from Monaco.

The rumoured £150 million fee would almost definitely leave Bale out in the cold.

Mourinho says he will know if Bale is available depending on whether or not he starts tonight.

He said: “Well, if Gareth is playing I wouldn’t think he will be sold. He’s in the coach’s plans and the club’s plans because he also has that motivation to continue at Real Madrid.

“If he is not in the club’s plans that, with the arrival of another player, would mean he is on his way out.

“I will try to be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has travelled with Real for the clash against his former club with Zidane saying he is as fit as he was before the summer.

The 32-year-old forward was granted extended leave following Portugal’s Confederations Cup campaign and despite only just returning to training has been included in the 24-man squad.

Zidane said: “The fact he is with us, this means a lot because after three days if he is with us, it is because he is ready to play. We’ll see whether he plays or not.”
