Trump in mad rant on nukes
RANTING Donald Trump caused alarm yesterday by threatening North Korea with “fire and fury like the world has never seen”.
The president lost the plot after his spy chiefs reported that tyrant Kim Jong Un’s scientists had developed a nuclear bomb small enough to put on a missile.
Some pundits said Kim now had the capability to attack New York with nuclear weapons, and those reports appeared too much for Trump to cope with.
Rather than trying to calm the situation, he interrupted a briefing on drug abuse at his golf course in New Jersey to issue blood-curdling threats worthy of Kim himself.
Trump said: “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States.
“They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.
“He has been very threatening, beyond a normal statement.
“And, as I said, they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power the likes of which this world has never seen before. Thank you.”
The North Koreans threatened “physical action” at the weekend in response to punitive UN sanctions over their nuclear programme.
They have a long history of making such threats to try to extract concessions from the west.
Few believe Kim would ever set out to launch a first nuclear strike. He knows that would mean death.
But critics of Trump fear his wild reaction increases the risk of the North Koreans being panicked into launching a nuclear attack because they feel they are under threat.
Some experts believe the North has had the capability to launch a nuclear missile for some time. Others believe they are still trying to develop it.
