Meet the ‘A’ team

- GORDON ROBERTSON

THREE sets of twins at one school racked up THIRTY As in their Highers between them.

Emma and Vivien McAinsh, 17, Joseph and Michael Lowrie, 17, and 16-year-olds Niamh and Roisin Kelly all got perfect results at St Ninian’s High in Giffnock, near Glasgow.

Roisin and Niamh said they spurred each other on to study harder for the exams. Then Roisin had to endure a nightmare wait after her sister got her results text first.

“I didn’t get my message until much later in the day”, Roisin said. “When it eventually came I was just so relieved.”

There was plenty of relief too on the other

side of the country as kids from Levenmouth Academy in Fife got their results.

Michael Taylor, 16, from Kennoway, was thrilled with his five As. But he revealed he put in hundreds of hours of revision to get them.

“I studied more or less every day from Christmas time,” said Michael, who plans to do philosophy at university. “It took a lot out of me but it was worth it in the end.”

Five As was nothing to St Ninian’s pupil Asma Sarguroh, who notched up six. And her little sister Zaynab, 15, got nine As in her National 5s.

Zaynab’s success was matched by Ailidh Hamilton, 15, of Barrhead High School.

She said paid tribute to her teachers and fellowpupils who achieved record pass rates.
