A ROMANTIC boyfriend asked his shocked partner to marry him – with a little help from the SSE Hydro.

Jamie McGuire, 24, got down on one knee in front of Nicole Short at the arena in Glasgow as a message asking her to marry him flashed up on screen. She said yes.

Electrician Jamie, who works on military contracts in Afghanistan, had told Nicole, 23, that they had won tickets to take their daughter Harper, three, to a concert in December.

Shocked Nicole had no clue of the real reason behind their visit to the Hydro until the couple walked into the empty bowl to their song, Yours by Ella Henderson.

Nicole said: “I had no idea at all.

“We had been talking about taking Harper to the Dreamworks show in December and he told me that he’d won a competition and that we had to go to the Hydro to take pictures for their social media pages.

“It wasn’t until we got to the main bowl that we heard our song come on and the writing appeared around the arena that I knew what was going on.

“I didn’t have to think about it all. I said yes straight away.”

Jamie, who had worked as an apprentice during the Hydro’s construction, chose the venue because it was the scene of their first date – to see Still Game in 2014.

He said: “I’m so relieved she said yes.” Sadly the couple, from Glasgow, ruled out using the Hydro as their wedding venue.
