RAPPER’S ROAR OF RELIEF AT DODGING JAIL

- RORY CASSIDY

A BUDDING rap star yelled “F ****** yass!” yesterday after he avoided jail for defying a community payback order.

Joseph Herron, known as MC Shogun, did just 16 of the 240 hours’ unpaid work he got for burgling a house in 2014 and attacking police.

He also missed a string of court dates and appointments over the case. He was arrested for the breach after arriving at Glasgow’s O2 Academy last month to play a support set for hip-hop legend Nas.

Herron, 20, appeared for sentence yesterday at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Michael McKeown, defending, said his client took full responsibility for his actions but had “moved away from a pattern of offending” since 2014. His arrest has cost him the biggest gig of his music career.

Sheriff James Spy noted that Herron had repeatedly failed to complete his order.

But he added: “I don’t want to lock you up unnecessarily because I think you’re stupid rather than bad.”

Herron, handcuffed in the dock, promised Sheriff Spy he would obey a new order if it was imposed.

He said: “I was just behaving as a silly wee boy. I’m the orchestrator of my own downfall.”

The sheriff gave him a 12-month order with 220 hours’ unpaid work and told him he would be jailed for a year if he flouted it. Herron yelled with joy as he left court.
