4.4% pay rise at Sainsbury’s

-

SUPERMARKET chain Sainsbury’s yesterday announced plans to hike pay 4.4 per cent for 135,000 workers this month.

The rise for shopfloor staff will take pay to £8 an hour – including workers below the age of 25.

The increase, which takes effect on August 27, comes alongside a shared bonus across the group of £78million this year.

Boss Mike Coupe, pictured, said: “This is the third successive year we have awarded eligible store colleagues a pay rise of four per cent or more and recognises their hard work and dedication.”

However, it comes just days after proposed cuts to 1000 head office workers emerged as part of a plan to save £500m.
