Annie: My fears for desperate Sinead
Eurythmics star shocked by distressed singer’s motel video
ANNIE Lennox yesterday sent out a plea to fellow singer Sinead O’Connor after watching a video of her having a public breakdown in a dingy US motel.
A friend of the Irish star, who hit No1 in 1990 with Nothing Compares 2 U, posted a clip on her Facebook page in which she says she has been “fighting for her life” and living in a Travelodge in New Jersey. Eurythmics singer Annie admitted she was distressed by the 12-minute video and appealed to fans to come to Sinead’s aid. In a post on Facebook, she said: “I watched this distressing call for help by Sinead O’Connor, from a motel room in New Jersey, where she says there’s no one there to help, with the exception of a psychiatrist and a doctor.” In the video, Sinead said she had wanted to kill herself for two years, which is when she fell out with her family.
The 50-year-old musician said her doctor and psychiatrist were the only people “keeping her alive” as she continues her battle with mental illness.
She added: “Mental illness, it’s a bit like drugs, it doesn’t give a s*** who you are. And you know what’s worse? The stigma doesn’t give a s*** who you are. “Suddenly all the people who are supposed to be loving you and taking care of you are treating you like s***.” Who’s That Girl? singer Annie said: “I realise that Sinead has some serious mental health issues, but she appears to be completely out on a limb and I’m concerned for her safety. “Are there no close friends or family who could be with her to give her some loving support? It’s terrible to see her in such a vulnerable state.” Sinead, who is bipolar and has fought depression for years, sparked a police search in May last year when she failed to return from a bike ride in Chicago.
