Watchdogs probe arrest Remand inmate went missing from hospital days after cell block terror
POLICE watchdogs have been asked to examine the arrest of a 14-year-old boy.
It is understood he claims he was injured in the incident in Cumbernauld.
The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner’s office have confirmed they are investigating. A FUGITIVE prisoner had tried to leap from a jail landing four days before he went missing.
Remand inmate Jamie Roy, 24, absconded from Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he was being treated, at 11pm on Wednesday.
Police Scotland said he was not believed to be a threat to the public. But they warned he should not be approached.
Earlier this week, the Record revealed three hero prison officers at Barlinnie jail battled to save an inmate after he tried to leap off a landing in the prison’s C Hall. A source said: “It was about the height of a tenement building on to solid concrete. It would have been ugly.” It has now emerged that Roy was the prisoner at the centre of the scare, days before he vanished from the hospital.
Three guards had to hold on to him for 30 minutes as he tried to kick away from them. A source said: “One of the guards threw up and was crying after.”
It is understood Roy, who has links to Bishopbriggs and north Glasgow, had come off the phone and was upset about a family matter.
It is not known what charges he is facing.
Roy is 6ft with short dark hair and tattoos on his neck. He was last seen wearing red trousers, black socks and no shoes.
Asked about Roy yesterday, a Scottish Prison Service spokeswoman said: “We do not comment on individual prisoners.”
