DANNY SWANSON watched Ivan Sproule go down as a Leith legend with a hat-trick against the Glasgow big guns in a 3-0 win in 2005.

And the big Hibbee hopes the current crop can create some history of their own today.

He said: “Say the name Sproule and the hat-trick is what you remember. I’d love to have half of that performance at Ibrox!

“As a fan, to go and win at Ibrox is massive but as a player it would be a similar finish – even better.

“Going there as a Hibs player for the first time will be terrific. It means more to my friends. It’s a massive rivalry now and that’s a good thing for Scottish football.

“It’s two massive clubs battling against each other but as players it’s a different mindset. The manager gives you a game plan and you need to go and execute it.

“Both teams are confident and it should make for a good game.”

Swanson is looking forward to squaring up to Gers stalwart Kenny Miller after cheering the striker on when he was a rising star at Easter Road.

He said: “I used to watch Kenny play for Hibs. I used to sit in the east stand watching him when he was a young boy.

“It’s incredible how he is still performing at that level – and he’s still the top man. Everything they do it goes through him and he is a top professional. His quality is there and it’s like he has changed his game from when he was younger.

“It’s a bit like what Ronaldo has done at Real Madrid, he doesn’t have the pace he used to have but he has a brain that’s ahead of a lot of others.”

Swanson revealed he’ll be remembering the advice of his old St Johnstone boss.

He said: “As Tommy Wright used to say, ‘Get the fans on their back’.

“Their fans are very demanding, they need to win every game regardless of their squad. The fans could get on their back and that’s something we need to pounce on.”
