O’Hare won’t shrink from the challenge

CHRIS O’HARE has credited his mind doctor for curing his fear of failure as he goes for glory in tomorrow’s 1500 metres final.

The double Euro medallist looks one of Britain’s best hopes of bagging a medal on the last day of the championships after he eased into fourth place in his semi in 3:38.59.

And the Boston-based Scot revealed his sports shrink has worked wonders in giving him the kind of self belief that took US rival Matt Centrowitz all the way to Olympic gold.

He said: “It’s the most deeply-rooted confidence I’ve ever had.

“I talked with my psychologist at the start of the year to develop what we call ‘Centrowitz Confidence’ – confidence beyond belief.

“Previously it has been superficial. I’ve talked myself into it.

“This year I was a bit nervous in the warm-up but my coach said to me ‘you don’t have to be on top form. You just need to qualify’. That’s a good spot to be in.”

O’Hare will go solo in the final after club-mate Jake Wightman had a tactical shocker in his semi as he trailed in eighth.

The 23-year-old said: “It’s gutting because top five was a real possibility.”

Nick Miller threatened a medal stunner in the men’s hammer with a 77.31m effort before the Cumbrian, 24, settled for sixth as Poland’s Pawel Fajdek made it a hat-trick of world titles.
