One Mo thing, Farah wants name change

WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS Doyle leads Brits to silver glory in relay

SIR MO FARAH has reacted to losing his final track championship race by changing his name.

Six years of global dominance came to an end when Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris beat the British star to 5000 metres gold on Saturday night.

Farah’s response was to reveal he will head into the next chapter of his career no longer known as mighty Mo. The multi-winning Olympic and world track champion, who switches his attention to marathon running next month, said: “My road name is Mohamed. I just feel like Mo is done. I need to forget about what I’ve achieved and what I’ve done.”

What Mo achieved was to reign supreme between 2011-17, winning 10 successive global titles.

Those remarkable feats brought a level of scrutiny that Farah – whose coach Alberto Salazar is under investigation by the US Anti-Doping Agency – has not appreciated. And the silver medallist lashed out when quizzed about his work with Salazar.

He said: “It’s like I have achieved what I have achieved and you are trying to destroy it. You guys, so many times towards me, you have been unfair. I don’t know why.

“I want you to write the truth about what’s out there and educate people out there. But be honest with them. If you say Mo Farah has done something wrong – prove it.

“The reality is I’m going to still keep working, keep fighting and making my country proud. You can write what you like.

“I’m a clean athlete and as long as I understand that I sleep well at night.”
