SHAUN MALONEY believes his experiences as a player at the club will be beneficial in his new role at Celtic.

The 34-year-old called time on a highly successful career to rejoin the team he started with and the chance to work with the Parkhead Under-20 side.

Maloney, who was linked with Aberdeen this summer, reckons his knowledge at the club will be helpful to the next crop of Hoops stars.

He said: “I understand the position the players are in. It helps when I talk to them.

“I’m more understanding of what they are going through and what they’re striving for. That’s something that will benefit the players.

“I’m pretty sure it will and it’ll benefit me that I know how to speak to them.”

The former Scotland international admits he has landed in a perfect position as he looks to establish himself as coach.

Maloney reckons the chance to learn from Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is invaluable to himself and the youngsters he’ll be working with.

He said: “I’ve taken an interest in coaching the past few years and I don’t think I could have asked for a better start than to assist Tommy McIntyre with the Under-20s, to learn off first team staff and the manager.

“We have a manager who wants to benefit these players and it’s our job to help the players become the best they can. I want to improve each player and try to replicate tactical ideas the manager has.”
