Nomadic Sammon has score to settle

CONOR SAMMON admits he’s desperate to lay down permanent roots at Partick Thistle after racking up 11 clubs in his career.

The Hearts loan striker admits he knew the writing was on the wall at Tynecastle when they brought in hitmen Kyle Lafferty and Cole Stockton.

But Sammon, 30 – who has also had spells with Killie, Wigan, Derby, Ipswich and Rotherham – has grown tired of his nomadic career and is determined to settle at Firhill.

He said: “I’m not surprised Hearts let me go because I know how football works. It can be quite ruthless at times.

“Hearts made some signings during the summer so I knew that my future lay elsewhere.

“I’m at the stage of my career where I want to play regularly rather than be a squad or bit-part player.

“I do envy the one-club guys. It can be frustrating. The last six years have been new surroundings and fresh starts for me.

“My aim is to find a home where I can settle for a solid period of time.

“I’m excited about this season. I’m looking to make the most of this opportunity with Thistle.”

Sammon believes he can recapture the blistering form that earned a him a £600,000 switch from Rugby Park to Wigan in 2011 before moving to Wigan for double that.

The striker, who made his debut in the 1-0 defeat by Celtic, insists he can help fire the Jags to another top-six finish.

He said: “It’s a great challenge for us as a club and for me as a newcomer.

“The onus is on us to claim another top-six spot. This is a chance to get back to the level I showed with Killie the first time.

“I need to be playing regularly to do that. I’m looking to get goals and the confidence back.”
