JUST NOT FARE

Victoria Rose is left bleeding and in tears on first day at school after row with bus driver over 70p ticket

- SALLY HIND

A FURIOUS mum says her daughter’s first day at school was ruined after a bust-up with a bus driver.

Amy McCallum, 28, said the doors of the bus closed on little Victoria Rose Aiton’s leg after a row over a 70p kids’ fare, causing her to fall and hit her head.

A GIRL of four was left bleeding and crying on her first day at school after a bus driver confronted her mother over a 70p ticket.

Victoria Rose Aiton’s mum Amy McCallum said that after the argument with the driver, the bus doors closed on her daughter’s leg as they got off.

Amy, 28, claims Victoria Rose fell as a result, hitting her head on the pavement. She said: “This should be classed as assault.”

Bus company First Bus have begun an investigation.

Amy said the trouble started after she picked Victoria Rose up from school on Tuesday. She also collected her younger daughter from nursery and they all went to catch a Number 8 bus at Parkhead Cross in Glasgow’s east end.

Under-fives are entitled to free travel with the company and Amy had an all-day ticket.

But Amy says the driver did not believe that Victoria Rose was only four because she was wearing her new school uniform.

She claimed: “He said, ‘Children go to school at five in my country.’ I said, “In mine they go at four” and ignored him and got on the bus.

“When we went to get off in Riddrie the doors closed on my daughter’s ankle and she fell and smashed her face off the pavement at the bus stop.

“Her teeth went into her lip. There was lots of blood which got on her new uniform. I managed to clean her up but she was left in tears on her first day.”

Amy said the driver simply drove away after the incident.

She added: “I complained to First Bus and they apologised but I was told it would take up to 14 days to hear anything else.

“I want to see further action taken against the driver.”

Amy posted pictures of her daughter’s injuries on Facebook and there had been more than 2000 reactions to them by yesterday.

First Bus said they were treating the incident very seriously and would study CCTV from the bus.

A spokesman said: “First Glasgow are aware of the alleged incident on one of our vehicles yesterday.

“We are concerned to hear about the injury sustained by the child and have launched a detailed investigation into the allegations.”
