A MAN facing charges of threatening to kill Hibs boss Neil Lennon was rushed to hospital yesterday before he was due to appear in court.

The 54-year-old – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was arrested on Tuesday over death threats he is alleged to have made to the former Celtic manager following his team’s 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.

He was held in police custody overnight at Greenock police office and had been due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon.

But instead of appearing before Sheriff Susan Sinclair, he was taken to hospital.

Court insiders said there were serious concerns for his health.

One explained: “If it was something run of the mill, you would expect a police casualty surgeon, a GP who works with the police, to be called.

“The fact he was taken to hospital shows there was something they thought needed treated or checked out urgently.”

The suspect’s condition was unknown last night.

A series of death threats to Lennon, 45, were posted on social media at the weekend. He had outraged Rangers fans with his goal celebrations at Ibrox but a police investigation into his behaviour was closed with no charges.

Rangers supporters group Club 1872 accused the Easter Road boss of trying to “incite trouble”. ● POLICE are hunting fans who chanted sectarian and race-hate songs on the 10.45am train to Aberdeen from Glasgow Queen Street on Sunday, August 6.

Eight men boarded at Glasgow and were believed to be heading to the SPL match between Aberdeen and Hamilton.

During the journey, the men became abusive and threatening. Police say they are looking for further witnesses to the incident.
