Adam: We raise Bar each week

ADAM BARTON insists a narrow defeat by Celtic is proof Partick Thistle are heading in the right direction.

Alan Archibald’s side were beaten by an Olivier Ntcham strike that deflected off Scott Brown in Friday night’s televised encounter.

But the outcome could have been different had the hosts been awarded a penalty after Miles Storey fell to the ground under a challenge from Nir Bitton.

A heavy defeat at Hibs and the loss to Rodgers’s side sandwiched a 3-0 victory over St Johnstone in the Betfred Cup – with Thistle back at McDiarmid Park on Saturday bidding to pick up their first points of the season.

Midfielder Barton said: “We have to take positives from each game. We made up for defensive areas from the Hibs game against Celtic and went to St Johnstone and scored three great goals and got a good win.

“It’s looking better each week. We got it tactically spot on against Celtic. To give Celtic the minimum chances they had was very good.

“We were disappointed – it was a penalty at the end. That’s the way football is. It is a tough one to take.”

New signings Conor Sammon and Storey both made their debuts against Celtic and Barton believes the pair will offer a new dimension to their attack.

He added: “I’m not surprised the gaffer brought them in.

“They are direct and quick players. We need that out ball and these two will definitely give us that.”
