First Bus: No proof for claim of tot fall

- SALLY HIND s.hind@dailyrecord.co.uk

A BUS company yesterday said there was no evidence to support a claim that a four-year-old girl was injured as a result of a row with one of their drivers.

Mum Amy McCallum told how her daughter Victoria Rose was left with a bloodied face and in tears after the doors of a bus closed on her, causing her to fall and hit her face on her first day of school.

Amy claimed the incident came after she argued with the driver over whether she should pay 70p for her daughter’s travel in Glasgow’s east end on Tuesday.

She demanded further action against the driver, and images she put on Facebook of her daughter’s injuries were shared thousands of times.

But First Bus yesterday said that after checking CCTV and questioning the driver, they were treating the claims as “unfounded”.

A spokesman said: “These allegations were made on social media and to newspapers, in addition to a formal complaint received by our customer services team.

“First Glasgow responded by saying the matter was being taken very seriously and would be investigated immediately.

“Following detailed examination of onboard CCTV footage and an interview with the driver, we have established that there is no evidence to support the allegations relating to the injury of the child. We have been in touch with the customer to advise her of our findings.

“We are considering what further action might now be taken in light of these unfounded claims.”

Amy told us she was “really surprised” at the company’s response and was sticking by her story.

She said: “They’re going to say that anyway.”

Driver, 21, dies

A 21-year-old driver has died after his Vauxhall Corsa hit a concrete motorway barrier on the M80 at Moodiesburn, near Glasgow, at about 7.50pm on Thursday.
