Lions return has Alexander roaring again

- CRAIG SWAN

NEIL ALEXANDER insists he is savouring every minute of his return to Livingston.

Having spent last season on the bench at Aberdeen the 39-year-old has got the buzz of top-team action back having rejoined the club where he made his name almost two decades ago.

Alexander is also helping boss David Hopkin on the coaching side by lending his experience to the Livi kid.

He said: “All I wanted was get back playing again before I retired. Last season was disappointing not playing and I just wanted to join a club where I could look forward to a Saturday.

“I’ve been so fortunate to get the chance to go back to Livingston and I’m really enjoying it.

“You appreciate it more, especially having sat on the bench every week last year and done a lot of travelling for nothing really. I enjoy passing on experience to the younger lads and trying to help them.

“I like that responsibility and the manager is keen for me to have it. He likes that I can help out.

“The manager stressed to me this was an up-and-coming club with aspirations to play at a higher level.

“There was a good young squad and the manager was looking to add to that with high hopes for the season. I’ve enjoyed every second.

“The manager has been great with me and the boys the same so it’s been thoroughly enjoyable.”

Livi face St Mirren today with Jack Ross’s team looking to recover from last weekend’s derby loss to Morton.

Alexander said: “It’s going to be tough but we’d like to think we could get something with home advantage.

“The teams are even and it’s going to be tit for tat.”
