Now our kids must go Forth and prosper

- LEAGUE 2 GORDON PARKS

PETER MacDONALD has no intention of becoming a Forthbank father figure despite assuming the role of elder statesman at Stirling Albion.

The 36-year-old believes the batch of kids filling the first team must stand or fall by their own mistakes as they protect an unbeaten start against Edinburgh City.

MacDonald had a stint as caretaker co-boss with JonPaul McGovern after Barry Ferguson left Clyde last season but is adamant his only focus is getting among the goals for the Binos.

He said: “I am the oldest player by seven years which I find hard to believe.

“We have a decent group of youngsters who are all willing to learn and that helps massively.

“But I don’t want to be the father figure. I will pass on advice, you can only say so much to them. Sometimes it’s good for young players to learn from their mistakes.

“It’s important to me to just focus on being a player here. I’m not coaching at the club, I want to concentrate on making my contribution on the pitch. I am a Stirling Albion player and that is it.”

MacDonald, who also coaches Under-14s at Rangers alongside Brian Gilmour, believes the Binos will have their work cut out to make it three in a row.

He added: “Edinburgh City have recruited a few experienced players so we face a real challenge.”

City have brought in young defender Stuart Morrison on a development loan from Dunfermline.

Boss Gary Jardine said: “They have high hopes for Stuart and having seen him play it’s easy to see why.”
