I’VE ONLY GOT EIGHT FIT STARS TO FACE GLASGOW

-

ANDY ENWOOD has revealed Hearts have endured a nightmare build-up ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Cup meeting with Glasgow City.

The Jambos welcome Scott Booth’s side to Edinburgh in the last 16, with only eight first-team players available.

Enwood, whose side sit fourth in SWPL 2, said: “We’re really on our knees at the minute. But it presents an opportunity for our reserve and development players to be involved in such a big game.

“We’re really looking forward to bringing Glasgow City to Dalkeith. It’s why you want to play the game, you want to play the best teams and the best players. We’re well aware of the challenge we’ll be faced with.”

While the top-flight teams have been out of action since June due to the Euro finals in the Netherlands, Hearts have had two league games in the past few weeks.

After a run of three games without a defeat before the summer break, Hearts suffered losses to Motherwell and Forfar Farmington that have all but ended their promotion hopes.

But with 180 minutes under their belt it gives the underdogs a small advantage, although Enwood does not believe the lay-off will affect City, who have only lost once all season.

He said: “There are players in their squad who have been involved in the Euros and the Under-19s Championship. I’m sure that they’ve been well prepared. I don’t think there’ll be any negative impact.”

Rangers are at home to Stirling Uni in an all-SWPL 1 meeting, and Hamilton Accies host Granite City. There are guaranteed to be lower division sides in the quarter-final draw as Forfar Farmington host Buchan, Renfrew meet Glasgow Girls, Cumbernauld Colts play Boroughmuir Thistle, and Jeanfield Swifts travel to Queen’s Park.

The tie of the round between holders Hibernian and Celtic has been put back for two weeks, as Hibs prepare for Champions League action next week.
