BARRHEAD Youth Football Club are keen to kick-start a girls team as part of their long-term goals.
In March the club received a huge £350,000 investment to build brand new changing rooms in Cowan Park.
This expansion allows them BARRHEAD YFC to bring in more youth development teams as well as a new girls’ team in the future.
They then struck gold again when East Renfrewshire Council and the SFA stepped in to help run a series of Soccer Centres, which run every Friday.
Having Scotland star Jane Ross as their role model for the camps has played a major part in inspiring girls to try playing the game. And John Gervaise, football development officer for East Renfrewshire, said: “It’s great to see so many young girls from East Renfrewshire being inspired by the recent Euros and taking up the game with Barrhead YFC.”
Tina Stewart, SFA girls and women’s club development officer, added: “We are seeing a significant increase in participation of girls of all ages. We hope even more will come and join in at our centres.”
