MOULT WON’T BOLT

Robinson insists wanted striker is going nowhere

MOTHERWELL boss Stephen Robinson insists hitman Louis Moult will see the season out at Fir Park despite rejecting a new deal.

The English striker is out of contract next summer and was the subject of two failed bids by Aberdeen this summer.

Moult, who bagged 18 goals for the Steelmen, last season has also been linked with a move to Rangers.

But the Northern Irishman insists the 25-year-old will remain at Well for the full campaign.

He said: “Louis has indicated he’s not going to sign a new deal although that’s not to say further down the line he won’t.

“He’s going to be here for the next year minimum. He’s 100 per cent committed to Motherwell.

“Louis is a big part of what we are doing and still will be. We have a very good relationship.

“I understand his thinking but we got caught short when Marvin Johnson left on the last day of the window last season so I’ve got to make good decisions and strengthen the squad.

“I’m confident he’s committed and ultimately he’s playing for his own career as well.”

Robinson was pleased after Charles Dunne’s red card in last week’s 4-1 Premiership hammering by St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park – which saw three Motherwell players sent off – was rescinded on appeal.

But Robinson admitted he was disappointed goalkeeper Trevor Carson’s appeal against his dismissal for handball outside the box was thrown out.

And he revealed that bizarre 90 minutes has cemented his belief further technology needs to be introduced.

Robinson said: “Charles’s red card was rightly rescinded and we half expected that to happen but I’m very disappointed on Trevor.

“It costs you goals and ultimately changed the game, the decision the ref made. ‘Bizarre’ is probably the word for it.

“When you speak to the fourth officials and others I don’t think anyone half knows the rules. I do feel for them because it happened so quickly and they desperately need help.

“Refs are under huge pressure and are not getting help from anybody.

“But unfortunately they can overshadow performances, games and Tommy’s team winning.

“I didn’t try to speak to referees chief John Fleming because it’s not going to change the result. It’s not going to change the decisions they’ve made. “They’ve looked at it again and stuck by their decisions. “I’m in favour of using technology as we were able to see within 10 seconds that the decisions were wrong or at least 50-50. “Unless they’re 100 per cent clear you can’t make that decision. “Refs are human and we all make mistakes. The speed of the game is getting quicker but unless they get help we will be continually talking about refs dominating games.” The Steelmen entertain Ross County at Fir Park today and will be buoyed by the fact they won 3-2 in Dingwall earlier this month in the Betfred Cup. Although Robinson is wary that hitman Billy McKay is set to return for the Highlanders. He said: “I know Billy well from the Northern Ireland set-up and I signed him on loan at Oldham, “I’ve worked closely with him and I see he scored for the reserves in midweek. I’m expecting him to be involved but we’ll just focus on ourselves.”
