HIBS LADIES boss Chris Roberts insists their 10-1 aggregate hammering from Bayern Munich in last term’s Champions League could be the harsh lesson they need.

The Edinburgh side kick off their quest to reach the last 32 in the competition in Romania today.

Hibs face Swansea and then Ukrainians Kharkiv on Friday before finishing off with a match against group hosts Romanian outfit Olimpia Cluj on Monday.

Roberts said: “The Bayern Munich game was a learning curve for myself personally and for the club in how to prepare for Champions League football.

“We are not going to play against a bigger team than that in this group stage so it will be more relaxed.

“In between the two Bayern games we also learned a lot so we are more aware of what is needed.

“In domestic football if you are compact then teams tend to give you the ball back but that wasn’t the case at European level.

“If you don’t go and win it back then you are not getting it back. We learned that lesson the hard way last time so we are prepared for that this time.”

Hibs midfielder Joelle Murray admits they want to lay down a marker in Europe after challenging Glasgow City’s domestic supremacy by winning the last three pieces of silverware.

The 30-year-old had the pleasure of leading the Hibees out at Easter Road against the Germans last season and said: “That was probably the pinnacle of my career.

“Glasgow City are the club that has represented Scotland at this level for many years and that is what we want.”
