Gordon: We’llease Snoddy’s bigfreeze

ROBERT SNODGRASS has been frozen out at West Ham but Gordon Strachan insists a warm welcome awaits with Scotland.

The 29-year-old’s £10m move from Hull City to the London Stadium has turned sour just seven months into a three-and-ahalf year deal.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has told Snodgrass he can leave after failing to score in 15 Premier League games last season.

Sunderland are the latest club to be linked with a loan move but Strachan had no hesitation in naming the 23-time capped player in his squad for the double header against Lithuania and Malta next month.

He said: “He’s only missed two games since the England game, that’s not a big thing.

“Is it a show of loyalty? Yes, but it’s also understanding his ability to make things happen – and he’s shown he can make things happen.

“It’s not blind loyalty because I do show loyalty to everybody who’s given it to us and to the group.”

Black Cats boss Simon Grayson, who worked with Snodgrass at Leeds, admits he can only offer him a temporary escape.

He said: “We won’t be buying Robert because of the fee and the wages. The only way we would get him is a loan deal.

“We’ll ask the question about his availability but it’ll be affected by finances whoever takes him.”

Meanwhile, Strachan insists Stuart Armstrong has made the right call by penning a two-year deal with the Hoops.

The midfielder was caught in a summer-long contract saga before finally agreeing terms last week.

And former Celts boss Strachan said: “It’s a good decision for him, it’s a good place to be if he wants to progress. The best place to play football is in the Champions League.”
