Boxer who runs girls’ fight club threatened to kill his own wife

A BOXER who runs a fight skills club for women is awaiting sentence for threatenin­g to kill his wife.

But despite his conviction, thug George McIlroy has no plans to quit the classes. He told the Record: “I do it out of the kindness of my heart”.

Dad-of-three McIlroy, 33, attacked estranged wife Stacey, 36, outside her home in May. He tried to headbutt her then threatened to kill her and made a threatenin­g gesture.

He also behaved in a threatenin­g or abusive manner, shouting, swearing and repeatedly kicking Stacey’s car.

McIlroy denied all wrongdoing but was found guilty of two charges after a trial at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in July.

The profession­al welterweig­ht is due to be sentenced next month, but he’s carrying on with his “Lights Out Fitness” women’s Boxfit classes as if nothing has happened.

He teaches them on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Ardeer Community Centre in his home town of Stevenston, Ayrshire – and is adamant he won’t give them up.

McIlroy told our reporter : “If you had to ask any of these girls about the kind of person I am to the kind of person Stacey is, they would tell you.”

He added that he had trained the women for years and ran classes through “the kindness of his own heart”. He said he only charged enough to cover the hire of the hall.

But a local source told us: “It’s utterly ridiculous for someone like him to be running classes for women.

“They are all about empowering women. You can’t build women up one minute then tear them down the next. It seems in poor taste that he
