A CAMPAIGN to support a brave Scots boy with an incurable brain tumours is being backed by former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

The parents of two-year-old Lyle Cornet are raising funds to adapt their house to meet the youngster’s needs.

The fundraising drive is inching towards its £60,000 target, lying just £6000 short.

Fury, 29, made a cash donation and pledged to send a pair of signed boxing gloves to auction. He also left a video message of support on the Teamlyle Facebook page, which has documented the boy’s battle against illness.

British WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, 27, left a video message too and promised to send a pair of signed gloves.

Lyle’s parents, Lyndsey and Tjay, both 25, hope a charity bash tonight will propel their cash total to the target.

The £60,000 would allow them to create a bedroom and a wet room on the ground floor of their home in Loanhead, Midlothian, so Lyle doesn’t have to be carried up and downstairs.

Lyle is the grandson of former Scotland and British Lions full-back Bruce Hay, who was suffering from a brain tumour when he died at the age of 57, in 2007. Both his young grandsons were later diagnosed with tumours and Lyle’s brother Chris, four, has also undergone surgery.

We told last month how Lyle had undergone surgery to remove nine samples of his tumour for examination.

Lyndsey said: “We’re nearly there with the fundraising and I can’t thank everyone enough for their efforts. It’s amazing that Tyson and Billy Joe took time out to give their support.

“Fingers crossed we can reach the target and start the work soon. It would be a dream come true to have everything ready for Christmas.”

Tonight’s fundraiser is at Jewel Miners Club in Edinburgh from 7pm. Tickets cost £10 with music, a buffet, auction and raffle. Donations can be made to Lyle’s PayPal fundraising account using lylecornets journey@yahoo.com
