Pop princess out to steal her rival’s thunder with big announcement
THE feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry could be coming to a head. Pop fans are waiting to see what happens on Sunday when Katy hosts the MTV VMA awards. It was meant to be Perry’s big week, with her new video for Swish Swish out and the awards ceremony. But Taylor tried to steal her thunder by revealing her new album Reputation is out on November 10 – and a new single released today. There’s speculation she could even gatecrash Katy’s VMA party. Taylor fuelled rumours ahead of herhe announcement by deletingde all her social mediam posts – then postingpo three videos of snakes.sna OnlineO speculation aboutabo who the snake rereferencesfe might concernconc is fierce as the 27-yeyear-old hasn’t been shy aabout writing songs about people in her life. It’s thoughtt Dear John is about hher ex John Mayer, I Knew YouY Were Trouble is rumouredrumoure to be about Harry Styles andan We Are Never Ever Getting BackB Together is said to be aboabout Jake Gyllenhaal. The snakessn have fans guessing. WillW the album have a song referencing ex Calvin Harris? Or maybe Kim Kardashian and Kanye West? After all, when they rowed with Taylor over Kanye’s song Famous, Kim posted snake emojis on her Instagram.
But Taylor’s most high-profile feud still appears to be with 32-yearold Katy – so perhaps she’s a snake in Taylor’s eyes.
The women were friends at first but their relationship turned sour after both dated Mayer. And then there was trouble over backing dancers.
Both stars have written tracks which many think are criticising the other with Swift’s Bad Blood and Perry’s Swish Swish.
In June, on the same day that Perry released Witness, Swift made her own entire back catalogue available on Spotify, after removing it in 2014.
There’s another chance the women could put aside their differences at this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards – with rumours Swift might make a surprise appearance.
But either way, both have succeeded in getting plenty of publicity and are probably unlikely to be rattled by all the talk of snakes.
