Celts in talks for PSG kid

-

From Back Page has been busy all this week trying to add a striker and a central defender to his ranks ahead of tonight’s midnight transfer deadline.

With discussions over an ambitious season-long loan for Edouard ongoing, sources in France say the deal could include an option to buy the forward.

But Man City’s Denayer won’t be rejoining the champions. And that means Rodgers faces a race against time to land a defender.

The Hoops boss is without injured duo Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko and has been forced to play midfielder Nir Bitton as a makeshift centre-half.

And an £800,000 deal for South African Rivaldo Coetzee collapsed on medical grounds last week.

Denayer, 22, spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Parkhead, winning the title and League Cup as well as being named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.

But the Belgian – farmed out to Sunderland last season – is now heading back to Turkey where he spent 2015-16.

Meanwhile, Celtic winger Jonny Hayes, 30, insists he knows nothing about speculation linking him with a possible loan move to Cardiff barely two months after making the switch from Aberdeen.

Asked if he knew anything about Cardiff, Hayes – on international duty with the Republic of Ireland – said: “No, not that I know of anyway.

“You see these sorts of things on social media crop up now and again.

“One of my pals sent me a screenshot of something and said, ‘Any truth in that?’

“As far as I’m aware there’s none. I’m not exactly sure where it came from.”

Cardiff had three bids for Hayes booted into touch by the Dons last January. They offered £1.2million in the summer but the Irishman opted for Celtic because of the lure of Champions League football and the chance to link up again with Rodgers who he worked with as a trainee at Reading.
