RAMPANT GERMANS JOY OF SIX

-

GERMANY rattled six goals past Norway last night as they edged ever closer to a place at next year’s finals in Russia.

Joachim Low’s world champions thumped the visitors 6-0 in Stuttgart to extend their 100 per cent record in Group C to eight matches and on this form automatic qualification is merely a formality.

It was one-way traffic from the start as Germany wanted to put last week’s scrappy 2-1 win in the Czech Republic behind them.

Low said: “After the Czech game we said we wanted to bring a different spirit into the team, a different approach.

“Especially in the last third of the pitch we wanted to find the spaces and play into them. When you do that then you create chances.”

Norway were never given a chance, falling behind in 10 minutes and blown away inside 40, conceding four as the Germans ran riot.

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil began the rout, firing home one of six chances inside the first 15 minutes.

He turned provider for the second, teeing up PSG winger Julian Draxler in the 17th minute and four minutes later RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner made it 3-0.

Five minutes from the interval Werner headed in Thomas Muller’s cross and there was no easing up after the break as sub Leon Goretzka powered in a header from Draxler’s cross in 50 minutes.

Werner was subbed for Mario Gomez who justified the switch with a header to make it 6-0.

San Marino remain without a point after losing 5-1 in Azerbaijan, who scored five goals in a qualifier for the first time.

Poland regained control of Group E thanks to a 3-0 win in Warsaw over Kazakhstan, just hours after Denmark had temporarily taken over top spot with a 4-1 comeback win in Armenia.

Arek Milik, Kamil Glik and a penalty from Robert Lewandowski secured the points for Poland, who are three clear of Montenegro and Denmark.

Stevan Jovetic scored in the 75th minute to give Montenegro a 1-0 home win over Romania while a Thomas Delaney hat-trick and free-kick from Spurs’ Christian Eriksen saw Denmark come from behind following Ruslan Koryan’s brilliant opener for the home side.
