I must be Morrison the ball in clashes

- CRAIG SWAN

JAMES MORRISON is on a mission to be at full pelt for the showdowns with Slovakia and Slovenia.

And the West Brom ace last night insisted Scotland can afford no more late lapses if they are to burst their way into the World Cup play-offs.

Morrison capped his return from a severe knee injury sustained against England in June with a composed display as a second-half sub in the 2-0 win over Malta.

The 31-year-old was a late call-up into the squad after a surprise comeback for Albion.

Two quickfire outings for his club got him back into contention but Morrison wasn’t near his peak.

However, with a month to go before two crucial qualifiers, the playmaker has vowed to be flying for the double date.

Morrison said: “It was nice to be involved again. It was a bit of a surprise coming on but we came away with three points.

“It sets things up for those two crucial games. We can’t look past them.

“I have only been back a week so I hope to get a few more games before we meet up again.”

Physical fitness brings mental fitness and Morrison believes that could prove crucial in the final analysis.

The West Brom star said: “It’s about those little moments. You can look at the goal we lost at the end against England.

“Imagine if we had taken three points there?

“Little things matter in football and this team needs to learn how to see games out.”
