A CRAFTY pensioner who scooped a £1million lottery win has vowed to splash out on a new sewing machine.

Violet Grahamslaw, 63, struck it lucky when husband John took a pile of forgotten tickets to their local shop to check.

The former care worker loves sewing and knitting and is excited about spending some of her winnings on her hobbies.

Violet, from Berwick-uponTweed, said: “Since retiring three years ago, I have been doing a lot of knitting and dress making so I’ll be treating myself to a new sewing machine.

“We need a new kitchen, followed by a living room makeover. I think I’ll also treat the kids and take the family on holiday.”

She got a shock when John, 68, returned from the shop with the winning ticket.

Violet said: “He was shaking, chalk white and kept saying, ‘Call this number’. When Camelot confirmed I’d won £1million, I couldn’t believe it.

“The first person I called was my mum, who got confused and kept telling everyone I had won £1000 and not £1million.”

She then called son Paul, 33, and daughter Tanya, 31.

Violet added: “They couldn’t believe their ears but were over the moon. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

She won in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw on August 18.
