Celts even better but Accies can stop them

-

MARTIN CANNING believes Celtic are capable of steamrolling their way to another unbeaten season.

But he reckons if anyone can halt the Hoops juggernaut it might as well be his Hamilton side.

Canning’s men are out to end the Parkhead club’s 53-match domestic unbeaten run this evening.

It’s an ominous task for Accies – even with Celtic ready to rest key men as part of their preparation for PSG next week.

Canning said: “Is it feasible to go unbeaten again? Based on last season it is, yes. I don’t think they’re getting weaker, they’re becoming stronger. When you look at the guys they’re bringing through into their squad from their Under-20s they’re becoming stronger.

“If they can do it last year I don’t see why they can’t do it again this year.

“But that’s up to the likes of us and the rest of Scottish football to get that result. I’m pretty sure that’ll be their intention.

“The boys know we can do it. Every team that’s played Celtic in the last 50-odd games has been thinking, ‘Are we the team that’s going to be the one that ends their run?’

“We’ll be thinking the same thing. That’ll the main focus – to try and take something from the game.”

Canning was part of the Accies squad that won at Parkhead in October 2014 – even though he watched from the stands.

Several of that squad are still at the club and belief they can cause another upset.

The boss said: “I didn’t play because of injury. Maybe that’s why we won!

“Whoever ends Celtic’s run, it will be a team that rides their luck a little bit.”
