WE’LL FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL

Skipper Inglis vows Accies will turn it around

GILL INGLIS experienced the heartbreak of relegation once with Hamilton – and she’s determined to avoid a repeat this season.

Accies bounced straight back up to the SWPL1 but have found their return to the top flight tough in the first half of the campaign.

They are second bottom just two points ahead of Aberdeen and know safety is far from ensured.

But Inglis – who has been with Accies for the last six years and is one of their longest-serving players – insists they have the talent to avoid the drop.

The Hamilton defender said: “The first half of the season was challenging for us. We had some really good performances and our results probably didn’t reflect those displays.

“We’re looking to build on those performances in this second half of the season. All we can do is prepare properly for each game.

“We have been so close in so many games that we are just trying to find that missing link. Hopefully we can kick on from here.

“I was in the team that was relegated and I’m delighted we are back in the top division. We want to put things right after what happened two years ago.

“We have learned from past mistakes and we had a really successful season last year. We have tried to take the things we did well into this season and to implement those things in this league.”

Inglis reckons the players aren’t feeling the strain of a relegation battle and is confident they can achieve the results that will secure survival – starting with their next league outing against Celtic in a fortnight.

And ahead of their Scottish Cup quarter-final clash against Rangers at the Superseal Stadium tomorrow the Accies skipper said: “I don’t think there is extra pressure on us.

“We are going to stay up. We definitely have the players to do it. It’s going to be challenging but you want to play against the best in the country.”
