PSG fear loan star Edouard

THOMAS MEUNIER admits PSG are wary of the threat of Odsonne Edouard ahead of facing their loan star at Celtic.

The Belgian star believes the striker’s loan spell at the Hoops from the French giants is part of career path that can take the 19-year-old to the very top.

Edouard made an instant impact for the Hoops with a debut goal at Hamilton but it comes as no surprise to Meunier who knows PSG will find it hard coming up against the talented youngster.

He said: “We know Odsonne very well – he’s difficult to stop. He’s a really good young player. If he can keep his place in the Celtic team he will learn the game and become a really good striker.

“I also know a bit about Celtic because my friend Dedryck Boyata is at Celtic. They are the kind of team that everyone knows about – they are like Manchester United, Bayern Munich. They are a mythical team.

“I always check their results. We know they have a good manager and side. I know they are really strong at home and have surprised big teams there before, for example, when they beat Barcelona a few years ago. So we know we will have to be focused.”

Former Bruges full-back Meunier can’t wait to experience the famed European nights at Celtic Park – and vowed to improve upon their 5-1 league thrashing of Metz by burying the Hoops.

He said: “It’s the kind of stadium and atmosphere I dream about. We want to score as soon as possible to try and quieten the crowd.

“It is really important we get off to a great start in the Champions League. We are going there to score a lot of goals.”

Meunier faces his own battle to gain a place in a side which is spoilt for choice in every position and admits even he’s starstruck by some of the PSG new boys.

He reckons the highlight for some Celtic fans will be seeing Neymar play again in the flesh – after he was at Parkhead last season with Barcelona.

He said: “I think a lot of Celtic fans will go so they can say they’ve seen Neymar.

“It’s incredible to play with players like that. Two years ago when I was in Belgium the biggest transfer was maybe £10million. Now I play with superstars like Neymar and Mbappe. I feel very lucky to be there with them.”
