PAT’S GOT NO FEAR

-

From Back Page in the game but Roberts reckons PSG should be wary of Celtic’s lethal frontmen.

Leigh Griffiths is set to shrug off his calf knock, Moussa Dembele is pushing for a place on the bench and new recruit Odsonne Edouard got off to a flier with a goal on his debut last week.

Roberts has returned in blistering fashion while Scott Sinclair and James Forrest have already proved they can cut in the Champions League.

The Hoops might be poor relations to the Qatar-funded Paris powerhouses but the fans’ favourite wants to make it a Parkhead night to remember.

Roberts said: “We know the quality we have in the team. On our day we can kill teams off. The first game is at Celtic Park which is important for us.

“If we can get the fans behind us, we can hurt them with our counterattacks and our speed.

“We have some real firepower with the new lad coming in and Griff. It is good. We shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Roberts insists Celtic were not scared by Man City 12 months ago – and they won’t fear PSG.

Roberts said: “Manchester City last season was good for me. I didn’t show any fear.

“I want to perform at the highest level and just have to show that on the pitch. Last year we competed against the best and this year we have a similar group.

“We are more experienced now. We will go into it more confident and hopefully get something out of the games.”

The City loan star relished his first start of the season in the slick 4-1 win at Hamilton on Friday and insisted he is ready to be let off the leash tomorrow evening.

He said: “It was good for me. I need to get some games under my belt and as fit as possible.

“Do I feel ready for PSG? Of course. So to get 60 or 70 minutes the other night was important. I felt good and I felt sharp.”

Roberts returned with a roar last Friday and he won’t be weighed down by the huge expectations from the Celtic fans who gave him a hero’s welcome.

He said: “Is there pressure? No, not really.

“The Celtic fans and manager know what I’m about. It’s just about me going out on to the pitch and doing what I’ve always done. I relish it.

“I love getting the fans off their seats and hopefully producing a performance they enjoy.

“I think we did that the other night. I was pleased with my performance.”

Roberts was on song and admitted he was blown away by Edouard – who got a round of applause in the dressing room after the Accies win.

The attacker said: “He is a top lad and great player. He is a good addition to the side.

“He is strong and quick. To have a third striker is important. Hopefully he has seen how we played last year and can emulate that when he comes into the side.”
