Child rape victim is told: You consented
A CHILD rape survivor whose tormentor was jailed was refused compensation – because officials claim she consented to sex.
Sammy Woodhouse was told by letter: “I am not satisfied you were a victim of sexual activity to which you did not in fact consent.”
Sammy was abused from the age of 14 in Rotherham during large-scale grooming of children for sex.
She told the BBC’s Inside Out: “If any adult can think it’s a child’s fault for being abused, beaten, raped, abducted, you’re in the wrong job.”
Lawyer David Greenwood said many other claims had been similarly rejected.
England’s Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority said: “We are reviewing our staff guidance.”
