SURVIVOR John, still driving at 102

STV, 9pm ROYAL Navy veteran John is 102 and has never taken a driving test – they weren’t mandatory until 1935.

“I don’t think there’s any point,” he says. “I’ve been careful and I’ve survived!” But his daughter is concerned about his devil-maycare attitude.

John admits he sometimes drives on the other side of the road for a clearer view of oncoming traffic.

Meanwhile, Joan, 91, takes her grandson out for a spin to demonstrate her motoring abilities. But he looks frankly terrified, reminding her to change gear and wincing as she nearly cuts up a lorry. It would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous.

There are more than 100,000 drivers on our roads who are over 90 – all very admirable, but worrying at the same time.

In this series, several have agreed to a voluntary driving test to determine whether or not they should still be behind the wheel.

But there’s a sadness here too because these ageing roadsters want to retain their independence. “The car is my lifeline,” says Joan. DOCTOR FOSTER

BBC1, 9pm ACTOR Bertie Carvel has a very handsome face, but he is going to have to watch out that no one punches it.

An over-zealous fan could easily forget that he is not actually Gemma Foster’s cheating ex.

Last week this brilliantly tense drama returned and a smug Simon was back in town with his new wife and baby. And with a face so smackable we’re just praying for some devastating comeuppance.

Gemma (the wonderful Suranne Jones) was left broken as Simon took INTENSE Suranne Jones
