Celtic acting alone in EBT review row

-

From Back Page revealed he had written to every one of the SFA’s 108 member clubs – and Celtic are the only ones who want the saga revisited.

The SFA board have pointblank refused to instigate a new, fullscale investigation on the back of advice from senior legal figures and insist it’s time for Scottish football to move on.

Regan said: “I notified the SFA members last week of the decision and invited any comment from any who felt there might be something they wished to discuss.

“Not a single phone call, not a single email, not a single letter has been received from any of our members other than Celtic. I think Celtic, and Peter in particular, is speaking on behalf of Celtic. I have a lot of respect for Peter. He is looking out for the best interests of Celtic Football Club. I have no issue with that whatsoever.”

The SFA have forwarded a dossier to compliance officer Tony McGlennan on the conduct around the award of a UEFA licence to Rangers in 2011.

Fresh evidence was made public at the recent Craig Whyte trial after witness box testimony by former Rangers financial director Donald McIntyre but he is not obliged to answer. It also remains to be seen if Rangers oldco liquidators BDO play ball with an SFA investigation.

Hibs have issued a statement backing the SFA saying: “Both the SPFL and SFA have taken extensive legal advice which does not support or encourage taking further action.

“We do not support the letter from the SPFL calling for a further independent review.

“While we know this is a divisive issue that will never be resolved to the satisfaction of all supporters, we cannot allow it to divert us from the future or to keep us mired in the past.”

And Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne backed that view. He said: “We now must focus our collective efforts on taking Scottish football forward and stop dwelling on the past. It is my wish that we all work together to make this happen.”
