Farmers in loan plan

THE Scottish Government have announced a loan scheme for farmers hit by delays to European subsidy payments.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said the scheme was necessary to “stabilise payments” for those applying for Common Agricultural Policy support in 2017.

Loan schemes were brought in last year after 2015 and 2016 payments were delayed, caused by the introduction of a new £178million IT system.
