A 13-YEAR-OLD maths whizz has earned a first class honours degree after studying in his spare time.

Scots schoolboy Wang Pok Lo passed his Advanced Higher maths at 11 and is now setting his sights on a masters degree after his remarkable success in his Open University course.

Known as Pok to his friends at Queensferry High School, near Edinburgh, the fourth-year pupil is delighted with his maths degree.

He said: “On the results website, you have to check each module and as I scrolled through I was really happy, even getting 100 per cent on one of the modules.

“I enjoy doing maths but it is getting very challenging.

“It has started to get a lot more difficult as it has become more about concepts which are a lot more abstract and it’s mostly logic and reasoning.”

Pok, who moved to Scotland with his family from Hong Kong in 2006, already has Advanced Highers in statistics and mechanics.

He plans to enrol with Sheffield University for a part-time MSc in statistics with medical applications.

Pok will continue to combine his university studies with his school work.

The talented teenager also finds time to hang out with his friends and play the piano and guitar.

Cara Prot, curriculum leader for maths at Queensferry High, said: “It has been tremendous to have Pok with us over the last few years.

“His natural flair for maths is inspiring.”
