Dave, 9pm THIS completely absurd game show is back for a fifth series with more bewildering assignments that make absolutely no sense.

But that doesn’t matter in the slightest.

As ever, Taskmaster brings us a generous clutch (or should that be chuckle?) of comedians, assuring that this is always funny.

Greg Davies presides in a gaudy throne as the omnipotent Taskmaster, with Alex Horne as his sidekick and general dogsbody, dishing out bizarre challenges to five comics fighting for his love and admiration.

We’ve been spoiled with some good names in comedy – Sally Phillips, Nish Kumar, Bob Mortimer, Aisling Bea and Mark Watson.

All have brought in an “excellent noise-making thing” as this week’s prize – these include an air horn and an actual opera singer.

First, they must devise the most special of cuddles for Alex, before trying to get a ball into a basketball hoop without using their hands and being stranded in a lake.

Dignity is lost, insults are flung, and rivalry surfaces, as Greg smugly continues to reign supreme.

It’s an hour of pure, unadulterated silliness.

BBC2, 10pm THE latest in a string of BBC comedy pilots, this one has an excellent cast and a premise that could have the legs to take it into a whole series.

It starts with a surprise party for Colin (Simon Greenall) hosted by his wife Tess (Rebecca Front) and their daughter Catherine (Ellie White).

But Colin drops dead within moments of arriving and Tess and Cathy soon discover he had another family living down the road.

Conveniently (and rather cleverly), Colin called his other daughter SWEET Cathy, Tess and Cat
