MURDER TRIAL JURY
Accused told police he was defending himself in flat death horror
A MURDER accused told a 999 operator he’d “stuck a sword” into a drinking pal who was trying to kill him, a court heard yesterday.
Adrian Hynd, 51, made an emergency call to police after stabbing Alex Forbes in his flat. In the recording, played to the jury, Hynd said: “I had no option, buddy. If I didn’t kill him I was dead”.
Hynd told operator Daniel Auld the weapon was still sticking in Forbes’s chest.
Asked if the victim was breathing, Hynd replied: “No, he’s dead. I made sure of it.”
Hynd is on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh accused of murdering Forbes, 25, who he met for the first time just hours earlier at the Windsor Bar in Victoria Road, Kirkcaldy.
They’d been out for a New Year’s Day drink and met in the pub, where Forbes boasted of being related to an Edinburgh gangster and boxer Tyson Fury.
They later went back to Hynd’s flat in the same street with two other men. Forbes and Hynd were left alone at about 3.45am and apparently began wrestling bare-chested, grappling on the floor.
Giving evidence, Daniel, 51, said the 999 call was made at 5.02am and he asked what it was about. On the tape, Hynd said: “I just murdered somebody, self-defence, Victoria Road. We were in the pub, came back to mine for a party. I collect swords. I stuck a sword in him.”
Daniel asked: “Is he breathing?” Hynd replied: “No, he’s dead. I made sure of it because he was trying to kill me.”
The accused said he was going to call his ex-wife to come round but the operator advised him not to. Hynd said: “He’s dead. I made sure of it. He was f ***** g killing me. B ***** d.”
Hynd asked: “Can I have a cigarette? Is that OK?”, and the operator told him to go ahead. He continued: “I didn’t even know the f ***** g guy’s name.”
Daniel asked: “You used a samurai sword?” Hynd replied: “Not a sword. It’s a vampire dragon sword, knife. I collect real f ***** g s**t. I had to stab him. I had no option.”
After telling the operator there was “blood all over my living room”, Hynd described the struggle over the weapon.
He said: “I grabbed it. He hit me. I grabbed it off him. If I wasn’t so strong, I’d be dead. I had no option, buddy.”
The operator asked if there was “blood everywhere” in the flat.
Hynd replied: “Oh god, f*** aye. The knife I killed him with is still in his chest.
“I stuck it in his side, his f ***** g chest. I had to do everything I had to do because has trying to kill me. I’m compos mentis, buddy, honestly.”
On the recording, police officers could be heard arriving and Hynd spoke to them.
He told them: “In you come. I stabbed him, I killed him. I had no option.”
Daniel told the court Hynd “seemed calm, collected” on the phone. He added: “I don’t think he appreciated the seriousness of what had occurred.”
PC Alisdair Paterson, 34, later told the

jury how he was one of the officers who arrived at the flat, which was decorated with swords, knives and Star Trek memorabilia. The officer said Hynd told them: “He’s in there, he’s dead.”
PC Paterson said Hynd claimed Forbes had attacked him, headbutting and punching him, and Hynd “defended himself ”.
Dr Ailie MacPhee, who later treated Hynd in A&E, said his injuries included a 4cm scalp wound, cuts to his left hand and wrist, a puncture wound near the
