FORM GOES WRIGHT OUT THE WINDOW IN A DERBY AT DENS

- GORDON BANNERMAN

ST JOHNSTONE boss Tommy Wright is wary of a Dundee backlash on Saturday after suffering a Dens mauling last season.

The Dark Blues head into the derby clash in desperate need of a win after taking just one point from their first five games.

Their poor form is in stark contrast to the Perth side who sit third after an unbeaten start.

But Wright remembers the Dark Blues dishing out a Dens defeat to Saints after a similar bad run last season and knows it could happen again.

He said: “We have made a good start and Dundee haven’t but it’s a derby.

“We will go there with a lot of confidence but Dundee will feel they are due a win because they have been unlucky in a few of their matches.

“We went there last season at New Year and lost 3-0 despite Dundee being on a poor run at the time. That just underlined that form means very little in this league.

“You see it all the time, teams on good runs lose to teams on bad runs. You just have to look at every game on the day because there is so little between so many of the clubs.

“Dundee will view us as a team they can beat.

“So we have to just focus on ourselves. We have proved over the last four or five seasons we can get the better of both Dundee teams but we have to go out and play.”
