Top spot means nought to Pedro

- CRAIG SWAN

PEDRO CAIXINHA last night insisted he’s only interested in Rangers topping the Premiership table come May.

If Gers beat Partick Thistle by a four-goal margin tomorrow night they will sit on the top of the pile.

After dropping to the bottom tier and working their way back up through the divisions Gers briefly sat at the summit early last term under Mark Warburton.

They could now do so again although Celtic, Aberdeen and St Johnstone could jump above them less than 24 hours later.

But Caixinha claims he’s

not bothered and won’t even look at the standings as he’s only concerned about looking down on the rest after 38 games.

Caixinha said: “By the end, we will make the count. If the count allows us to celebrate we will celebrate hard but, for now, I will concentrate on it match by match.

“I don’t care about it. I don’t know what position we are in.

“I know the points we have and the goal difference we have which I am not happy with.

“But I’m just focused on winning the next game. We have one principle. Focus on ourselves.

“I don’t care about other results as long we add three points.

“We cannot live without the supporters and we need to deliver the same passion but we need to be rational.

“Rational is believing in our process and the hard work and also where we need to improve.

“Only then can you have some consistency.”

Caixinha may not be willing to discuss the league position but there is no getting away from the importance of the next two weeks.

After the league clash with Thistle, Rangers return to the home of the Jags for a Betfred Cup quarter-final before facing Celtic in the first Old Firm game at Ibrox.

Caixinha’s team can make a huge statement with a hat-trick of wins but the gaffer is feeling no strain.

He said: “As I told you a lot of times, for me there is no pressure.

“There is no pressure from being in front of this massive club and working with this great group.

“It is about helping the team and the players to be better day by day. That is the process.

“If we are really convinced about the process, we don’t feel pressure. We tick more boxes saying we’re better here, here and here.

“When one team is better in some of those boxes, it is going to win more times than it loses.

“I enjoy that because I am a natural competitor. You put a smile on your face to compete.”
