We need a dose of the runs

Kerr: Win can get Bairns going

- MICHAEL GANNON

MARK KERR insists dumping Dundee United can kickstart Falkirk’s push for promotion.

The midfielder admits the Bairns have yet to get up and running with his side still seeking a first league win five games in.

He’s refusing to hit the panic button just yet though and is convinced Peter Houston’s men will click into gear if they can take three points off their promotion rivals.

Kerr said: “We need to start getting points on the board. We managed to win all of our games in the League Cup but it has not happened for us in the league yet.

“It has not been an ideal start and we’ve lost some late goals. We’ve had a few injuries this season but we have some boys coming back and others not far away.

“Things haven’t been going for us but no one is panicking – it’s early days. There’s a lot of quality in the squad and I’m sure we will get on a run.

“We had a bit of a slow start last year but eventually hit a bit of form. It’s not like us to go four or five games without a win so hopefully that’s it out of the system. This weekend can be a turning point.”

The ex-United ace has watched his old side stumble in recent weeks but also reckons the Tannadice men will come good.

Ray McKinnon brought in a raft of new players in pre-season with his Tangerines getting off to a flier before suffering setbacks against St Mirren and Dumbarton.

Kerr, 35, said: “They signed a lot of good players in the summer, guys with experience of playing in the Premiership or winning the Championship last season.

“It can take a bit of time for things to gel and they’ve had a few slip-ups – you have to expect that sometimes.

“They are a good side though. I’ve got no doubt they will be there or thereabouts this season. Anyone who finishes above them will be in with a shout.”

The Tangerines sank Falkirk’s promotion hopes in the play-offs last season before slumping against Hamilton in the final.

And Tannadice defender William Edjenguele has warned United to beware the Bairns on a revenge mission.

The 30-year-old said: “I don’t expect Falkirk to be where they are right now in two months’ time.

“Falkirk is definitely not an easy place to go and play. It doesn’t matter if they’re doing well or not so well like just now.

“It’s going to be tough and I’m sure they’re going to be looking for revenge after we put them out of the play-offs at the end of last season.

“But it’s a good time to try to put things right for ourselves.”

United lost 3-0 to new league leaders St Mirren before salvaging a 1-1 draw at home to Dumbarton last weekend.

The title-chasing Taysiders are bidding to get their promotion push back on track and fans’ favourite Edjenguele said: “It takes time to gel so I’m not worried at all.

“Each year at most clubs there are a lot of new players who come in. But at a club like Dundee United everybody expects us to go from the first day of the season.

“Right now nobody is stressed because it’s not the end of the season. I don’t think you should push the panic button as yet.”
