Paying the price
OVER the past 10 years, the SNP have boasted about free prescriptions, free university fees, free bus passes and a freeze on council tax plus extra police.
Now we learn this has been at cost of £1billion which should have been spent on the NHS each year.
Such cash injections would have gone a long way to ensure the running of the NHS was up to standard, instead of the shambles we have today. Hamish Leishman, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire
Subjects of debate
I’VE been following the debate about the teaching of Scots against the teaching of English, maths and foreign languages.
Both sides seem to be of the opinion that it’s an either/or situation when it isn’t.
I believe that Scots should be taught and encouraged in schools but that doesn’t preclude the teaching of English, maths and foreign languages.
There is room for all those subjects and they should all be encouraged. David John Robb
Cyclists’ register
I THINK it’s time for compulsory registration, insurance and identification of all cyclists.
A simple hi-vis vest with a number would do the trick. If the police stopped cyclists who flout the law and fined them £500 a time, behaviour would improve.
Recently I saw a child cycling on a busy pavement.
I have no problem with the child but the mother was cycling on the pavement as well with a large dog on a long lead.
Action should be taken against cyclists who break the rules. Clark Cross, Linlithgow,
