Quit? Fat chance

IT’S concerning that kids born to mums who smoke are more likely to be fat if their mum smoked during pregnancy, as a team from Aberdeen University have discovered.

Of course, smoking is a very bad habit. Surely mums must take heed not to smoke while they are pregnant or, better still, give up smoking altogether for their children’s sakes. June Fleming, Musselburgh, East Lothian

Missed the target

YET another target missed by the Scottish Government. This time it’s the registration of airguns. Only 17,332 licences have been granted out of an estimated total of 500,000 weapons. So what are they going to do about it? No doubt nothing, as usual.

They’re definitely top of the class for pledges but at the bottom for carrying them out and when challenged they are full of excuses or ignore it all together. What a way to run a country.

No complaints

I AGREE wholeheartedly with the letter by Dorothy Connor about celebrities going on about their health issues in public.

My husband has terminal cancer. We are glad he can still get about. He never complains. We try to make the best of every day. Both of us put the TV off when those people keep going on about themselves.

I wish I had the money they have. I would be giving my husband some treats with it, not complaining. Maureen, Hamilton
