TWIST AGAIN IN PERTH

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

CLASS act BALLYANDY (4.30) can get his chasing career off to the best possible start at Perth.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’s gelding was good enough to land the Betfair Trophy at Newbury last February and looks exactly the type to be even better over fences.

The Naunton handler can also claim the opening novice hurdle with CALETT MAD (2.10).

The ex-French gelding showed some excellent form as a novice chaser last term and can take advantage of a fair timber mark on the soft ground.

GOLDEN JEFFREY (3.55) can shine for Iain Jardine in the Heineken UK Novices’ Hurdle.

The four-year-old was in decent form on the Flat over the summer and is one to follow over timber after his game win at Cartmel last time.

VIOGNIER (5.40) can land the “That’s All Folks” Hurdle for Otterburn handler Susan Corbett.

The mare was steadily progressive in novice company and can come on plenty switched to handicaps after her good recent second at Hexham.

However, the best bet of the day has to be ELARQAM (3.45) in the Sommerville at Newmarket.

Mark Johnston’s colt oozed class when bolting on his debut at York and the son of Frankel can justify his growing reputation upped to Group 3 level.

UAE KING (4.20) can blossom for Roger Varian in the Rose Bowl.

The three-year-old ran a blinder when third in the March Stakes at Goodwood and this progressive stayer can produce another career best back over two miles.

RIGOLETTO (5.30) can pay for a few rounds when he lands the Molson Coors Handicap.

Luca Cumani’s gelding cruised to victory at Chepstow last time and the three-year-old should still be improving for his handler.

● Lucinda Russell says Grand National hero One for Arthur will be even better this season.

The eight-year-old is thriving ahead of his return at Kelso next month and will take in the Becher Chase and the Warwick Classic en route to Aintree in April.

However, the Arlary handler ruled out a tilt at the Cheltenham Gold Cup with the gelding set to stick to staying handicaps.

● Ayr’s fixture on Tuesday has been transferred to its hurdles course. The move comes after the track was forced to abandon all three days of its feature Gold Cup.

Two races from the original card have survived with four new ones created over eight, nine and 13 furlongs.
