PRINCE CHARLES has joined some of the biggest stars in music, film and football to donate prizes for an incredible new prize-packed charity draw backed by the Record.

Scots charities the Clutha Trust and Spirit Aid have today launched Donate to Win, which offers the chance to win stellar prizes including guitars signed by the Prince of Wales, Van Morrison, Coldplay, Paolo Nutini and Rod Stewart as well as signed Scotland, Celtic and Rangers tops – for the price of £1 a month.

It’s the brainchild of Spirit Aid founder David Hayman and Alan Crossan of the Clutha Trust – the charity set up by pub owner Alan in the aftermath of the helicopter tragedy which claimed 10 lives in 2013.

Sign up to donate £1 a month and you’ll be entered into a draw to win exclusive prizes, like the guitars and football shirts, as well as nights out, hotel stays, rounds of golf, and even pole dancing fitness classes.

Run by Spirit Aid and Clutha Trust, so far the causes signed up to benefit include Epilepsy Scotland, Indepen-dance, Hansel, the Trossachs Search and Rescue Team, PEEK, RAP workshops in the Gorbals, Drumpark Coatbridge, COJAC, the Spirit Aid Christmas Toy Appeal, A&M Dance as well as local schools and youth clubs.

Alan and David are urging people and businesses to sign up and promise every penny will go to the good causes.

Acclaimed actor and director David was humbled by the response when asking for prize donations.

He said: “It’s incredible. Once the word got out, people kept approaching us and sending the most amazing things.

“Without them, this wouldn’t be happening so we are very grateful.

“Spirit Aid and the Clutha Trust have a great partnership because we are both organisations dedicated to young people.

“Alan is a brilliant entrepreneur and is great at this kind of idea. He wanted to get money in but give people something back.

“The prizes are fantastic and nobody misses £1 a month. It’s not much and you get the chance to win things like incredible guitars and there’s golf, football… something for everyone.”

The team have celebrity support with stars including Joanna Lumley and Timothy Spall sending selfies highlighting that it’s just a £1 a month to enter.

To get involved, visit the website donatetowin.co.uk, sign up for the monthly subscription of £1 and then wait to see if you’re a winner in the raffle held every month.

The first set of prizes include a signed Rod Stewart guitar, a signed Scotland top, a £50 Schuh voucher, a bottle of Bushmills whisky, a £50 meal for two at 29 in Glasgow,

bottle of Lanson champagne and a four-ball round of golf at Haggs Castle in Glasgow.

Every month, new items will be given away. Subscribers can also get discounts at businesses such as Slanj kilt hire.

Alan hopes to get as many people on board as possible so they can make a big difference to young people’s lives.

He said: “The Clutha Trust gets a lot of support from musicians. We also have a massive following on Facebook.

“Paolo Nutini was in giving us a guitar and performed a few songs. On Facebook it got 400,000 hits. I was thinking, ‘I could use that.’ You could auction items for thousands, but who’s going to buy them?

“But with this, any punter that pays £1 could be a big fan and has the chance to win Rod Stewart’s guitar, Paolo’s guitar, Van Morrison’s guitar – for £1. It gives everyone a chance.

“And we hope it will keep growing. And all of your pound goes to the charities.

“Imagine if you had 10,000 people signing up, that would be £10,000 a month. I know hundreds of wee charities which could be helped by that and it could make some difference in people’s lives.”

Sheila McLean, fundraising manager for learning disabilities charity Hansel said: “The Clutha is an iconic name and this is a fantastic fundraising opportunity.

“What a great chance to get your hands on prizes from worldwide stars like Paolo Nutini and Rod Stewart.”

Epilepsy Scotland’s head of fundraising Robyn Friel added: “What a great idea to help raise money. It’s great to see that support for charity is still so strong in Scotland.”

There was already a link between the Clutha and charity Trossachs Search and Rescue. Handler Gayle Wilde and dog Taz were sent to help with the rescue operation after the helicopter crash. Gayle said: “We’ve remained close with everyone here since that night.

“We’re raising money for new dog handling equipment and part of our work is also supplying defibrillators to help others save lives, so every penny from Donate to Win will make a huge difference.”

Daily Record editor Murray Foote said: “We are delighted to support Donate to Win, which is supporting some very worthy causes.

“Alan and David have had a great idea and I hope our readers back it and give themselves the chance to win fantastic prizes.”
